While Duchess Meghan was the undisputed centre of attention at her and Prince Harry’s royal wedding, there were some who also stood out from the A-list crowd.

Who could forget the moment Prince Charles walked Duchess Meghan down the aisle at St George’s Chapel in place of her own father.

It was a beautiful, pure moment of connection between the soon-to-be royal and her father-in-law.

But there was one little thing some people couldn’t help but notice.

Indeed, Charles’ suit appeared to be a recycled style, which he had owned since 1984 – a very different time while he was married to Diana.

In an interview in British Vogue this week, the Prince finally opened up about his unique decision to re-wear the outfit as opposed to something new.

He was asked, “The suit you wore to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding – I think it dates back to 1984 by Anderson & Sheppard. Did you ever consider wearing something new?”

To which the Prince simply responded: “I’ve considered it. But in the case of that particular morning coat, as long as I can go on getting into it, I only wear it a few times a year, in the summer, so obviously you want to keep those sorts of things going.”

He also reitereated his very practical approach to it, telling Vogue, “If I can’t fit into them, then I just have to have something new made. But I’m not sure quite how radically different they can be at my age.”

Charles also spoke about his desire to refrain from waste.

“I happen to be one of those people who’d get shoes – or any item of clothing – repaired if I can. Rather than just throw it away. And that’s why I think, from an economic point of view, there are huge opportunities for people to set up small businesses involved with repair, maintenance and reuse,” he said.

The Prince is an advocate for sustainable fashion.

Prince Charles is known for his passion for the environment and sustainable fashion.

Last year, he even donated his garden weeds to help create a collection of clothing that was appropriately avant-garde – because it’s made entirely of nettles.

Yes, you read that correctly – he teamed up with Vin + Omi, an iconic brand in the sustainable fashion space to do so – and the results were spectacular.

The co-founder of the brand, Omi told PEOPLE about the unlikely collaboration.

“It was actually his idea to use nettles from his estate and turn them into clothes,” he explained.

“And what do you do with a suggestion like that? It was almost like a challenge for us!”

We must say, we’re impressed with the Prince’s ingenuity.
