Prince Charles’ lavish birthday present for grandson, George

Forget teddies and toys!

Prince George celebrated his second birthday last week with cake, presents of magnificent proportions and royal visits from estates near and far, but it seems grandad Prince Charles’ present has outdone all the rest.

For his only grandson’s big day, Charles has given George a treehouse fit for a king!

Instead of a teddy or a book or a new toy, Charles decided to completely refurbish the fairy-tale treehouse that once belonged to Wills and Harry at his Highgrove estate for George to play in.

The treehouse, originally built by Prince Charles’ favourite architect, William Bertram, is a small thatched cottage on slate pillars with a door shaped as a Holly leaf which sits in a holly bush on the edge of Charles’ wildflower meadow.

In honour of his grandson’s birthday, Charles has had workmen restore the cottage to its former glory.

The treehouse was given to William on his seventh birthday. When asked what he wanted his treehouse to look like, William reportedly replied, “I want it to be as high as possible so I can get away from everyone and I want a rope ladder which I can pull up so no-one can get at me”!

Now we know where little George gets it from!
