No twins: William and Kate confirm baby due in July

William and Kate leaving London's King Edward VII hospital.

Her extreme morning sickness had many speculating the royal baby was in fact royal babies, but the Duchess of Cambridge has confirmed she is expecting just one child.

St James’s Palace released a statement on behalf of William and Kate, revealing their baby’s due date and giving an update on the mother-to-be’s health.

“Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July,” a St James’s Palace spokesman said.

“The Duchess’s condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month.”

Kate, 31, is believed to be 14 weeks pregnant. She was forced to announce her pregnancy early after she was hospitalised with hyperemesis gravidarum — a rare complication of pregnancy that results in severe nausea and vomiting.

Bookmakers are taking bets on the day the baby will arrive, with the current favourite being Wednesday, July 17.

Elizabeth and Diana remain joint favourites for the new arrival’s name.
