New book claims Kate 'plotted' to seduce William

Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

A new book about the Duchess of Cambridge claims she went to great lengths to pursue the Prince who is now her husband and father of her child, switching her university choice and taking a well-timed gap year in order to study alongside Prince William.

In Kate: The Future Queen, British journalist Katie Nichol claims Kate snubbed an offer to study at Edinburgh University — one of the country’s top institutions — to attend St Andrews after it was made public that Wills would be studying there.

A careers advisor from Kate’s former school, Jasper Selwyn, told Ms Nichol Kate’s first choice of university had been Edinburgh, but she had turned it down.

William and Kate arrived at St Andrews in 2001 and wound up in the same art history class, previously thought to be a coincidence. But they first met in the Prince’s ‘den’ at his country estate, after Kate had fallen into a group of friends who mixed in royal circles, the book reveals.

The book details the couple’s early romance and reveals a then 24-year-old Kate called things off with William in 2007 after she was left ‘humiliated’ when pictures of William were published with two girls at a nightclub, and called him on his partying ways.

Nichols’ book goes on to detail how their relationship was rekindled with some help from Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton.

Now ‘Granny’ Carole was said to have had a ‘secret summit’ with Prince William when he came to her with marriage on his mind in 2009.

In the book, a family friend tells of Carole’s fears that William might not put a ring on it which she expressed to the Prince, and how she ensured she would have a role in the lives of their children.

“It was a condition when Kate and William got married that Carole and Michael would be part of the grandchildren’s lives,” a family friend told Ms Nichol.

The first-time grandmother has certainly been active in the early life of Kate and William’s first child, Prince George, now six weeks old.

Kate paid tribute to Carole during an appearance in Wales on Friday, revealing ‘Granny’ had taken over babysitting duties as the new mum made her first post birth outing.
