In a cameo that we venture to think was on few people’s 2022 Bingo cards, a member of the royal family is joining the cast of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! over in the UK.

According to a report from The Sun, Mike Tindall, husband of King Charles’ niece Zara Tindall, will be headed for the Australian jungle next month.

The 43-year-old is reportedly the ITV’s show’s biggest signing so far.

A source told the publication: “It’s a massive coup. Mike has had a box seat for some of the most important moments in royal history for generations.

“He is sure to be discreet, but his sheer presence means this series will be an absolute must-watch.”

Mike will join the ranks of singer Boy George, comic Seann Walsh and DJ Chris Moyles.

The former rugby union player officially joined the royal family in 2011 when he wed Zara. The couple now have three children, Mia, eight, Lena, four, and Lucas, one.

Mike has long boasted about how welcoming the royal family has been since he joined the fold.

“Zara’s mum is a legend and her father is lovely too,” he said in 2008 interview.

More recently, in a 2022 interview with The Telegraph, Mike reinforced how “kind” all the royals have been to him.

“They’ve made my family welcome,” the former footy player said.

“I’ve always felt part of it and I think that’s down to what an amazing woman the Queen is. They’re a fantastic family.

The non-working royals are financially independent, though they do reside at Princess Anne’s Cotswolds estate.

Following the news of Her Majesty’s death, Mike told his podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, that he was “blown away” by the global outpouring of grief.

“Zara loved the Queen beyond everything. Their connection with horses — the same with the Princess Royal — they had a real bond around that.”
