Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have chosen one of Diana’s nieces to act as godmother to their new daughter.

Laura Fellowes, 34, who is Prince William’s cousin and the daughter of Diana’s older sister Baroness Jane Fellowes, accepted the honour during Princess Charlotte’s christening in the church where Diana was baptised.

Laura and William were the two children photographed gambolling around the floor at Prince Andrew’s marriage to Sarah in 1986. The cousins remain close.

The new Princess Charlotte has five godparents in total, none of which are royal. She was Christened at the historic St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham this morning.

From L to R: Sophie Carter, Laura Fellowes, James Meade, Thomas van Straubenzee and Adam Middleton.

The Prince asked old school friend, Thomas van Straubenzee, who is married to the Duke of Northumberland’s daughter Melissa Percy, to be the Princess’s godfather, along with another friend, James Meade, from Eton.

Kate’s side is represented by her long-time friend Sophie Carter and her first cousin, Adam Middleton.

Charlotte’s big brother Prince George turned up in stunning red pants, a near replica of an outfit once worn by his dad.

The Princess was born on May 2.

Grandfather Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended the Christening, as did the Middleton family, but not Prince Harry, who was abroad.
