The Duchess of Cambridge will wear a crown for just the third time in her life next week, and rumours are flying she will choose the beautiful Spencer Tiara.

Kate is due to attend her first Buckingham Palace state banquet on October 20 and is expected to follow protocol and don a tiara for the event.

There are several exquisite pieces to choose from but the Daily Mail reports the her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s heirloom Spencer Tiara – worn on her wedding day and several times afterwards – is the frontrunner.

The Cartier Halo Tiara and the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara.

Another choice could be the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara, given to Diana by the Queen as a wedding gift in 1981 and now back in the royal collection.

Also in the mix are the Cartier Halo Tiara Kate wore on her wedding day and Princess Margaret’s Papyrus Tiara, which Kate chose for a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace in 2013.

Perhaps the most unlikely options are Queen Alexandra’s flashy Russian Kokoshnik Tiara, which seems much to ostentatious for Kate’s tastes, and Queen Mary’s Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, which is a favourite of the Queen’s and most likely to adorn the monarch’s head for the occasion.
