Will Kate Middleton add a Princess charm to her favourite necklace?

Will she? Won't she? It won't be long til we find out!
Kate Middleton Prince George necklace

The Duchess of Cambridge is often seen sporting this gorgeous piece of jewellery. With of the Duke and Duchess’ brand new baby girl, it looks like she might have to add another inscription on it.

The necklace was a gift from her sister, Pippa, following the birth of Prince George in 2013. It has three charms hanging on a loose gold chain and bears engravings for Kate’s two Princes. A disc is engraved with her baby Prince George’s full name, George Alexander Louis, and a heart-shaped charm is inscribed with the letter  ‘W’ for husband William.

Kate has barely taken off the sentimental gift since she was first spotted wearing the necklace two days after Prince George’s christening.

The necklace comes from the online boutique Merci Maman which specialises in personalised gifts and engraved jewellery and where Pippa has bought a number of bracelets.

Boutique owner Beatrice de Montille said at the time that she recognised the necklace, which she sent to Pippa to pass onto Kate as a gift following Prince George’s birth, when she spotted the third charm on the necklace – a little boy, which is her own creation.

“I was so happy to see Kate wearing it,” Miss de Montille said.

“She (Kate) is easily the most inspirational woman of our generation, as she is very elegant, and comes across as so modest.”

Merci Maman now features “The Duchess Necklace” on its site and unsurprisingly, the online store has benefitted from a spike in interest since Kate’s necklace was identified.

“We had 25,000 hits in just three days, which is the equivalent of all the traffic we get in December, our busiest month,” said Miss de Montille.

Although Kate is known for her modest elegance, the simple necklace is in contrast to the Duchess’s other notable choices of jewellery – such as the pictured Cartier-designed chain featuring 38 diamonds supporting a double-drop diamond pendant she wore to a gala dinner at the National Portrait Gallery.

Might we suggest a tiny tiara for the new Princess of Cambridge?
