Diamond Marshall, age 9, passed away this week after a long battle with cancer. Her dream of meeting a princess came true when she met the Duchess of Cambridge, and her husband Prince William, on their royal tour of Canada three years ago. Her father had written to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada to ask for the meeting after Diamond watched the 2011 Royal Wedding from her hospital bed.
Little Diamond hugged the Duchess when she, and her family, met her and the Duke on the tarmac of Calgary airport in Canada.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were sad to learn this news,” a spokesman for the couple said of Diamond’s passing.
Diamond’s family released a touching tribute to their daughter in a statement: “Diamond was a warrior but she carried herself with the grace and dignity of a princess. She touched many people along the way and her story inspired so many.”
