She may be due to give birth next month, but the Duchess of Cambridge is still carrying out her official royal duties and looking as radiant as ever whilst doing so.

In what was one of her final engagements before the arrival of baby number two, the Duchess, accompanied by husband Prince William, yesterday attended the annual Commonwealth Day Service in Westminster Abbey.

The mother-to-be stepped out in a pale pink Alexander McQueen coat, which symbolically, she had previously worn to one of her final engagements – Trooping the Colour – before the birth of her first child, little Prince George in 2013.

This time, Kate accessorised with a Jane Taylor hat of a similar pale pink colour.

The royal couple joined The Queen, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall who were also in attendance.

In the Queen’s annual speech, Her Majesty hailed the Commonwealth’s continued role, saying what the member states share is more important now than at any point in its history.

“We are guardians of a precious flame, and it is our duty not only to keep it burning brightly but to keep it replenished for the decades ahead,” she said.

“With this in mind, I think it apt that on this day we celebrate ‘A Young Commonwealth’ and all that it has to offer. As a concept that is unique in human history, the Commonwealth can only flourish if its ideas and ideals continue to be young and fresh and relevant to all generations.”

The Commonwealth Day Service is held on the second Monday of March every year, the 2015 Observance theme being ‘A Young Commonwealth’.

This year marks the first time Kate and William have attended the event.

In what was one of her final engagements before the arrival of baby number two, the Duchess, accompanied by husband Prince William, yesterday attended the annual Commonwealth Day Service in Westminster Abbey.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore the same pale pink Alexander McQueen coat she wore before the birth of Prince George.

The heavily pregnant Duchess still found time to have a laugh with her father-in-law, Prince Charles.

The Duchess of Cornwall also attended the event, chatting to the pregnant royal couple.

This is the first year the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have attended the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

Looking ever so radiant, the Duchess chats to guests before leaving the Commonwealth Observance.

The couple take the time to stop for a young admirer to give the Duchess of Cambridge a bouquet of flowers.

On her exit from the event, the Duchess holds the bouquet which matches her pink ensemble ever so elegantly.
