The Queen has shared a message of condolence for the family of Sir Tom Moore, who has passed away after testing positive to COVID-19 last week.
The British veteran shot to viral fame after single-handedly raising more than $50 million for the NHS during quarantine by walking laps around his garden.
Sharing an image from Tom’s Knighting ceremony last year, done in the wake of his whirlwind fundraiser, the palace wrote a message of support for Tom’s family.
“The Queen is sending a private message of condolence to the family of Captain Sir Tom Moore,” the caption read.
“Her Majesty very much enjoyed meeting Captain Sir Tom and his family at Windsor last year. Her thoughts and those of the Royal Family are with them.”

The Instagram post was met with an overwhelming response, with fans flocking to the comments section to write their own messages for the incredible man.
“We’ve lost a hero and symbol of the best of British,” one wrote.
“This guy was a true legend. This awful virus should not have taken him from us,” another added.
One fan also wrote: “Rest in peace Captain Sir Tom. Thank you Your Majesty for recognising the esteem in which the nation held him .”
Tom was Knighted by the Queen last year.

According to reports, Tom was unable to have the COVID vaccine, despite qualifying now, as he was taking other medication for pneumonia.
