Loyal locals are fighting to save the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s favourite pub from being shut down.
The Old Boot Inn, which is located in the picturesque West Berkshire village of Stanford Dingley, sits just down the road from where Catherine’s parents live, so it’s no wonder it is one of the royal couple’s favoured drinking spots.
But it looks like the royal pair will have to find a new spot to kick up their heels.
The much-loved watering hole is under threat of being turned into a residential dwelling, after its owner, John Haley, applied for planning permission to make the pub a home.
Mr Haley, who is said to be good friends with William and Catherine and was invited to their wedding in 2011, claims the 300-year-old building is no longer viable as a business.

But long-time residents and customers of the quaint and rustic country inn are determined to preserve what they see as the heart of their community. And they’re hoping the Royals will join them in their battle to keep the historical pub open.
Residents have since launched a ‘save our pub’ campaign and are urging Standford Dingley Parish Council to reject the plans.
Andy MacKenzie is just one of the many villagers strongly opposing the idea, saying the pub “is a valuable village community asset and would be greatly missed”.

“The pub is well used and famed for royal patronage,” Andy said.
Meanwhile, council have since released a statement saying that the “closure of the Old Boot Inn would undoubtedly affect village life, and would prove a serious loss to many in the local community.”
