This tasty morsel of history has been revealed after an auction house posted a copy of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding menu for sale.
Despite 1900 people attending their wedding at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, only 300 lucky guests were invited to the couple’s private reception.
Now, the closely guarded menu has fallen into the hands of Nate D. Sanders Fine Autographs & Memorabilia, which shows that revellers dined on the classic choices of fish and lamb – but with a posh Windsor twist.
First up was marinated South Uist salmon, Lyme Bay crab, Hebridean langoustines with herb salad – a seafood trifecta paying tribute to the fruits of the waters off Scotland.
Then guests feasted on North Highland Mey organic lamb with Highgrove spring vegetables – no doubt selected by the father of the groom Prince Charles, who tends to his Highgrove Estate vegie patch himself.
And lastly, and perhaps most adorably, Kate served up a dessert of Berkshire honey ice cream that paid tribute to her parents’ hometown.
Michael and Carole Middleton famously own a “manor” in the Berkshire village of Bucklebury, where Kate is said to feel most at home and escaped there not long after giving birth to Prince George.
The auction house describes the menu as being topped by Charles’ badge of three white ostrich feathers emerging from a gold crown, emblazoned with the words “Ich Dien”, which translates to “I serve”.
“Printed on cardstock, [the] menu features a green floral border trimmed in gold,” the website states. “[There is] a small stain towards the bottom, otherwise in near-fine condition.”
If you’d like this tasty royal souvenir, open your wallet before the auction closes on October 29 – but be warned, the minimum bid is $1000.
