Since starting the tour of New Zealand, the eight-month-old Prince has been gifted a boat, a custom-made bike and a vintage pilot helmet. Not to mention the countless toys and knitted jumpers given to his royal parents to pass on to him from fans.

And the gifts continued yesterday as Catherine and William began the Australian part of their tour. After a welcoming reception at the Sydney Opera House, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were given a mini cricket bat and baggy green cap for George. “How sweet,” William commented when Kate showed it to him.

Later that evening, Prince George was given a giant wombat from Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
