With Sunday March 22nd marking Mother’s Day in the UK, a number of our favourite royal family members took to social media to celebrate the special day – something we’ve become quite accustomed to seeing each year.

Only this time, things were a little different as the world tackles the outbreak of COVID-19, a pandemic that has virtually shut down and culled human contact in many parts of the world.

But the royals didn’t let that stop them from celebrating the day with their own special spin.

Taking to social media on Sunday evening (AEDT), Kensington Royal, the official account sharing all formal communication from Duchess Catherine and Prince William was the first to share a post.

The pair’s 11.3 million followers were treated to several beautiful images, the first being a new never-before-seen picture of Kate, William, Charlotte and George riding on their parents’ backs in their country home of Norfolk.

The stunning picture was a refreshing addition to the day’s news, with the joyful expressions on each of the Cambridges’ faces clear.

The fourth and final photo was also particularly touching – a card, created by six-year-old Prince George for his mum on Mother’s Day this year.

Going by the photograph, it looks as though we’ve got a budding artist on our hands – George’s card is impressive!

Princess Diana, Prince William and Prince Harry featured in another snap shared by the Palace.

Sussex Royal, the official account of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan also took to social media to share a heartfelt post.

In a sweet tribute to Meghan’s US roots and Prince Harry’s British family, the pair simply shared a written quote on an image reading, “Mummy, Mum, Mom, Mama, Granny, Nan.”

“Thank you.”

A caption next to the image read: “No matter what you call your mum, this Mother’s Day in the UK, we honour the mums all over the world who do so much every single day, and now more than ever.”

Ever the candid capturer on Instagram, Princess Eugenie also took to the platform to share several never-before-seen images with her mum, Sarah Ferguson.

Alongside the sweet pictures, some of which also featured her big sister Princess Beatrice with their beloved mum, Eugenie wrote: “Today I want to celebrate my mumma but also all the amazing mothers out there.”

Referencing the global pandemic which has left many feeling isolated and alone, especially on Mother’s Day, the Princess added: “I would like to celebrate all the mothers that can’t be with their children today because they are saving lives or keeping their distance to keep them and their children safe.”

She finished: “Today and every day we should tell our loved ones how much we love and cherish them.”

A gorgeous old image from 1950 showing Charles and mum Queen Elizabeth was shared on the official account of Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, while The Royal Family’s official account posted a picture of the Queen and her mother in 1951.

We hope all mother’s across the UK, Australia and the world feel plenty of love today and every day.
