Royal baby reunites Harry and Pippa

The chemistry between Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton at the royal wedding last year captured the imagination of the world, but the much hoped-for romance never materialised.

Now, the Party Prince and ‘Her Royal Hotness’ are set to be thrown together again, this time as godparents to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new baby.

Royal tradition generally sees the best man and maid of honour from a couple’s wedding named godparents of the first child.

“I think Harry and Pippa are very likely,” Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine said.

But Harry and Pippa are unlikely to be the child’s only godparents. Aristocratic families often have several godparents from both sides of the family for each child.

“As you know most people have just one or two godparents. But in royal circles you have a lot more, certainly William had quite a team,” Little said.

“I rather think they won’t have quite so many — perhaps four. Harry would take care of the royal connection and Pippa would take care of the Middleton side.”

One of William’s close friends Edward, Hugh, Nicholas and William van Cutsem is also likely to be chosen as a godparent.

Hugh van Cutsem’s daughter Grace — the grumpy little bridesmaid who stood on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with her hands over her ears — is William’s goddaughter and upper class people are generally expected to return the favour.

“I would say Harry and Pippa, a Van Cutsem, and maybe one of Kate’s close chums from school and that might be it,” Little said.

“Whoever it is it would have been given careful consideration. It would be a huge honour to be the godparent of a future king or queen.”
