Kensington Palace confirmed Duchess Catherine is in labour
And we can’t wait to meet her and Prince William’s royal baby.
The newest Cambridge will be in our lives so soon and we’re already giddy with joy over all the Prince or Princess’ milestone moments – from their first family photo outside of the Lindo wing, seeing them take their first steps, to watching them master the royal wave by Queen Elizabeth’s side on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
As we count down to the royal baby’s arrival, we round up the top five royal firsts we can’t wait to watch unfold…
1. Baby’s first photo outside the Lindo Wing
We’re so excited to see Duchess Catherine and Prince William walk out of the Lindo Wing with their newborn in their arms.
And the steps of St Mary’s hospital will be where their third child will be introduced to the world.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane…
Prince George’s makes his Lindo Wing debut
Princess Charlotte follows suit two years later
We couldn’t think of a prettier backdrop than those sandstone walls of the prestigious Paddington institution.
And if history repeats itself, baby number three might even get a visit from big brother Prince George and new middle sibling Princess Charlotte.
Who can forget when the king of sass arrived with his dad to meet his little sister back in 2015?
From everything we’ve seen of George and Charlotte – we’re expecting matching outfits.
For the first birth, Kate wore a blue dress with white polka-dots – an ode to Princess Diana.
For the second, she wore yellow and Prince George wore blue… So if we we’re to take a punt, Catherine might wear green, a combination of the two previous choices and the kids could be in yellow.
If we’re lucky – now that the kids are older, they may be able to stick around and even feature in the Lindo Wing photos.
2. Baby Cambridge’s first official portrait
Now this is a big moment!
There will come a time in Baby Cambridge’s life where they will be snapped on behalf of the royal family, and that photograph will be shared around the world.
In August 2013, Kensington Palace shared the first-ever family photo of a one-month-old Prince George and his proud parents.
And in one shot, their pet dog Lupo makes a starring appearance.
The pictures were taken by Kate’s father, new granddad Michael Middleton, in the garden of their family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.
Princess Charlotte’s first official royal portrait waved the cute flag high.
A series of four images, taken by mum Duchess Kate, showed Prince George in his new role of big brother cradling his little sister before planting a kiss on her cheek.
It was all too much.
We’re predicting the family will continue with their intimate, non-formal approach to official portraits.
Given how many family snaps have been captured by Duchess Catherine, it seems like a natural choice for the shutterbug to photograph her newborn.
And if history has taught us anything, we’re betting George and Charlotte will be playing a key role – and the photo will take place at their Kensington Palace apartment, or at their country residence Anmer Hall.
3. The Royal Christening
The royal christening has to be one of the most anticipated events following the birth of a Prince or Princess.
It’s safe to say Prince William and Duchess Kate will continue the tradition of getting their bundle of joy baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Reverend Justin Welby.
Following his birth, Prince George made his first public appearance at his christening at St. James’s Palace, which was a private family affair.
While little sister Princess Charlotte had a more public do, with the paddock outside St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham left open for the public to see the entire royal family.
The christening was attended by the entire British Royal Family, including the Queen and the Middleton clan.
Sadly Prince Harry was in Africa at the time, but this year should the family continue with the public event – we’ll hopefully see newlywed Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle in attendance!
4. The first time Kate and Wills take out their baby
With Prince George, we got to see the tot enjoy everyday life with parents on a handful of occasions.
One of the cutest times was when the wriggly toddler showed off his crawling skills at the polo.
Outside of her christening, Princess Charlotte’s made her dazzling balcony debut at Trooping the Colour in 2016.
Fingers crossed Wills and Kate bring the kiddies along to a polo match, there’s something so sweet about seeing the British Royal family off-duty!
5. Royal baby’s first Buckingham Palace balcony appearance
Every year, royal enthusiasts look forward to one key event: Trooping the Colour.
The special event, which celebrates the Queen’s birthday, gives us mere peasants the chance to see the modern monarchy in their element – big hats, bright colours, royal waves and all!
It’s also a chance to see Queen Elizabeth in action in her role of Gan-Gan to her great-grandchildren.
The royal baby will probably be too young to attend this year but we may get a glimpse inside the Palace’s walls with Nanny Maria Borrallo giving the kids a peek behind the curtain.
Before you sigh at the thought of waiting until 2019 to see Baby Cambridge on the balcony, we could get some baby action at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding on May 19.
Depending how old the newborn is, Kate may bring out the pram…
You never know!
Honourable mention: a photo with Lupo
It has come to our attention that we’ve never seen Princess Charlotte pictured with the family’s pet dog Lupo.
The darling pooch seems to be fabulous pals with Prince George, starring in a total of THREE royal portraits with the future king.
With Baby Cambridge’s arrival, we’re hoping that this gets rectified and we see a snap of all three kids… Maybe one of the cuties can be perched on Lupo’s back ala The NeverEnding Story.
