This time every year, we usually bear witness to one of the biggest royal extravaganzas on the calendar – Trooping The Colour.
Of course, in recent years we’ve seen the event scaled back to just The Queen making a solo appearance due to strict social distancing measures in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But somehow, this year’s Trooping the Colour weekend saw us see one of the best royal extravaganzas to date – and that’s because of a rather special extra two guests being in town.
Yes, the President of the United States, Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden have travelled to the UK, where they took part in the G7 Leaders’ Summit.
And rather conveniently, their trip to town coincided with a busy weekend full of royal activities.
And perhaps the Queen was aware of the need for a seriously good royal display – because she wore one of her most glorious pink outfits to date for her highly anticipated meeting with them on Sunday.
Flanked by the President and First Lady of the US, the Queen wore an absolutely beautiful pink floral dress by Stewart Parvin.
She added a pink hat, a set of pearls and white gloves to finish the look.
And ever the one to bring a little subtle meaning to her outfits, the Queen also added a beautiful star brooch – perhaps a nod to the States’ star spangled banner?
As the Queen welcomed the US couple to Windsor Castle, which is where she has remained since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, they were greeted with a Guard of Honour in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle.
Jill, also one to nail the fashion stakes, wore a beautiful powder blue outfit for the occasion.
Standing beside the Queen as the cameras clicked, there was no denying these two powerful women made a big impression,
The Queen hosted leaders for the G7 Summit on Friday, where she first interacted with Joe Biden.
Speaking of the chat, Joe later said of The Queen: “She said, ‘What’s it like in the White House?’ I said, ‘Well it’s magnificent but it’s a lot of people.'”
