The 35-year-old wife of Swedish Prince Carl Phillip, 40, is working as a volunteer medical assistant at the Sophiahemmet Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.

She is one of many volunteers trained by the hospital’s Sophiahemmet University College to help assist doctors and nurses in Sweden.

The Princess took a three-day medical course at the College, of which she is an honorary chair member, and will assist medical staff at the hospital, who are said to be overwhelmed with coping with the COVID-19 crisis.

“In the crisis we find ourselves in, the Princess wants to get involved and make a contribution as a voluntary worker to relieve the large workload of health care professionals,” the Swedish royal family said in a statement this week.

A photo of Princess Sofia taken outside the hospital shows the stylish royal donning a pair of medical scrubs, a distinct change from her usual glamorous red carpet outfits.

A spokeswoman for the Sophiahemmet Hospital, where Sofia is working, explained the royal and her fellow volunteers would not be working directly with patients, rather performing non-medical duties that will assist its formally trained doctors and nurses.

“They can disinfect equipment, do shifts in the kitchen and cleaning,” spokeswoman Pia Hultkrantz said.
