We always knew Princess Maryโ€™s royal romance with Prince Frederik was a modern-day fairy taleโ€ฆ

And it turns out this story also happens to be a little magical, or as our Aussie-born royal shares, it was written in her cards!

The future Queen of Denmark revealed that someone PREDICTED her now famous relationship, wait for it, BEFORE SHE EVEN MET FRED.

This story is quite frankly magical.

This week, Danish newspaper Kristeligt Dagblad shared an excerpt from Prince Frederikโ€™s new official biography, Under the Bar, and the royal couple have shed new light on that fateful first meeting in Sydney back in 2000.

The mum-of-four spoke to the author Jens Andersen about a her life when she Mary Donaldson.

Mary, now 45, was a 28-year-old Aussie advertising executive gal casually roaming around a local flea market in Sydneyโ€™s Paddington.

Then, our Tassie lass stumbled across a tarot card readerโ€ฆ

Young, full of adventure and endless possibilities โ€“ Mary decided to give the fortune teller a red-hot go.

The soothsayer placed a series of tarot cards in front of her on the table.

From Maryโ€™s accounts, the cards looked rather traditional and seemed to date back to mid-15th century Europe.

Judging by the very happy ending of this story, weโ€™re expecting said tarot reader was VERY legit.

Turning them over, the wise woman dropped truth bomb after truth bomb.

The Queen fortune teller told Mary:

  1. Sheโ€™d leave her dream job that sheโ€™d recently landed for a man.

  2. Said man would be worldly and from abroad.

  3. Mary would become famous and move toโ€ฆ Please wait for it: EUROPE.

Mary confessed in her husbandโ€™s autobiography, โ€œSo I left there and thought, โ€˜Well yes, that was a lot of fun, but nothing more.'โ€

โ€˜But Iโ€™ve always been interested in the spiritual.โ€

Adding, โ€œIn mystery and fate.โ€

Not long after this event, Mary โ€“ a believer of fate, got rewarded!

Theyโ€™re LITERALLY meant to beโ€ฆ

The year was 2000 and Mary Donaldson was enjoying the best of Sydney during the Olympics.

She happened to meet a guy โ€“ Fred โ€“ at the local pub the Slip Inn.

They got on swimmingly, chatting all night, Fred seemed like a decent down-to-earth bloke, with (weโ€™re taking a tiny leap) very hot European accent.

โ€œThe first time we met, we shook hands,โ€ she recalled.

โ€œI didnโ€™t know he was the prince of Denmark. Half an hour later, someone came up to me and said, โ€˜Do you know who these people are?โ€™โ€

They danced all night long before Fred dropped her home and asked for her numbers.

For months their long-distance romance played out over the phone and Mary admits sheโ€™d wander the streets of Sydney listening to Didoโ€™s Here With Me on her discman when she really missed her royal beau.

Mary originally thought Fred was just a nice guy.

We know where this story is goingโ€ฆ

The pair obviously fell deeply and madly in love, four years later in 2004 they got hitched in an epic fairytale royal wedding.

Becoming Princess Mary, she had to quit her job and move, for her man, to Europeโ€™s Denmark.

Itโ€™s been nearly 14 years of wedded bliss.

Proving to be a real-life Prince Charming, Fred said at the altar, โ€œFrom today, Mary is mine and I am hers. I love her and I will protect her with all my love.โ€

Today, they have the picture perfect family.

Together, the pair have four children, 12-year-old Prince Christian, 10-year-old Princess Isabella, and six-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

For Prince Frederikโ€™s part, he may respect fate but the heir to the Danish throne is a firm believer in carving your own destiny.

โ€œI believe in fate,โ€ he said in his new book.

โ€œThen I look back on all the exciting things that have happened to me, itโ€™s not random. But I donโ€™t try to look ahead and say, โ€˜Can I predict my destiny for the next two years?โ€™โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t want to talk to anyone who claims they can. No one should read anything about me and my future.โ€

So Fred and Mary are oppositesโ€ฆ And you what Paula Abdul has to say about that.

In the words of her 1988 hit jam, โ€œI take 2 steps forward. I take 2 steps backโ€ฆ We come together cuz opposites attract.โ€
