But now, with the coronavirus pandemic putting a stop to public gatherings and with new social distancing rules in place, all of our favourite royals have been forced to cancel all of their official duties for the foreseeable future – and this includes the Danish royal family.

In a new statement, the Danish royal court has announced a slew of their planned summer events will no longer take place, directly impacting Crown Princess Mary and her husband, Crown Prince Frederik.

This is in response to the Danish Prime Minister implementing a ban on larger assemblies, effective until August.

The statement said that Frederik’s mother, Queen Margarethe’s annual summer tour on board the Royal Yacht Dannebrog has been cancelled, along with “all activities of the Queen and the royal family related to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Reunification of Denmark and Southern Jutland”.

Queen Margarethe, Princess Mary and Prince Frederik planned to undertake a national tour that took the same route that the Queen’s grandfather King Christian X had followed 100 years earlier.

All of these events have now been postponed until 2021.

This isn’t the first time the Danish royal family’s plans have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, the family postponed their popular annual Royal Run.

Mary, 48, and Frederik, 51, announced the news as they released a new photo of their family, including their four children – Prince Christian, 14, Princess Isabella, 12, and nine-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

In the photo, family are sitting on outdoor steps at the Danish Palace, and next to them are six pairs of running shoes.

This caption says it all: “We have all been looking forward to lacing up the running shoes for the Royal Run. However, due to the current situation with COVID-19 / coronavirus, we unfortunately have to postpone this year’s running party to September 6.”

The event is an exciting annual occurrence on the Danish Royal calendar at which thousands of people join the royal family to run through the capital city at a time that usually coincides with Frederik’s birthday in May.

In fact, in 2019 a whopping 70,000 people showed up to the event.

While this year’s fun run will be pushed back a little, the Danish royals are still encouraging fellow runners to be active in their own ways within the current climate.

“We would like to encourage all running people – young and old – to maintain the joy and enthusiasm for exercise, and to follow the recommendations of the authorities,” they added in the Instagram caption.

Last month, the Danish royal couple also shared a candid family video thanking the heroic healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic on the frontline, including doctors, nurses and volunteers as they tirelessly help those suffering from the deadly virus.

The Danish royals have all returned home to their Palace amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

All four children had been studying abroad in Switzerland for the school term, however, their term was cut short, after it was deemed safer for them to be back in their home country with their parents during this pandemic.
