Prince Andrew was hosting a conference at St James’ Palace as part of his Pitch@Palace business initiative for young entrepreneurs, but that didn’t stop him from embarrassing his daughter Eugenie on her birthday via a video conference call.
Princess Eugenie was in fact serenaded with “Happy Birthday” by her dad AND all 400 conference attendees via Skype as her dad led the sing-along on his iPad.
“We are going to do something new this evening,” Prince Andrew told his guests, before bringing up an image on a screen for them all to see as he made contact with Eugenie in Manhattan, where she is currently based after graduating from Newcastle University in the UK a few years back.
The Prince continued: “The lady in the middle is my youngest daughter and it’s her 25th birthday today.”
Princess Eugenie was sporting colourful novelty birthday-cake classes as she grinned from between her mum Sarah Ferguson and big sister Beatrice as they celebrated her birthday together in New York.
Historic royal moments on social media
The sing-along even caused Eugenie to tear-up briefly, prompting Beatrice to say: “Don’t cry”.
Sarah joked afterwards: “We all think you need to go to choir practice!”
Beatrice meanwhile was more supportive, saying: “Well done, Pops. Very proud.”
The Prince is no stranger to technology as he was previously believed to be the first royal to snap a selfie from inside the walls of the palace , usually a tech-free zone.
Queen Elizabeth finds selfies “disconcerting”
It’s not the first time the young Princess has been serenaded either, she previously received a rather intimate performance from none other than Beyonce.
Prince Andrew has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons recently due to a royal sex scandal which he has publicly denied being a part of .
It seems that his daughters are still very much proud to support their dad though – even if he can’t physically be with them on their birthdays!
