The 43-year-old shared a sweet photo of herself cuddled up with the pooch last Christmas, which she spent in Monaco with her husband Prince Albert and twin children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

“My little Angel died last night, she was run over. I will miss you so much, Rest In Peace 💔,” a devastated Charlene captioned the photo.

Her post was flooded with condolences and messages of support from fans, one writing: “I’m so sorry ❤️ May she rest in peace 🙏 🌹”

“Oh no. My deepest sympathy. It hurts so much to lose a beloved pet .❤️,” penned another.

It’s unclear if the pup was killed in Monaco, or if the princess had her beloved pet in South Africa with her, where she has been stranded for months now.

The former Olympian travelled to her home country in March this year for a funeral, then joined a wildlife conservation project there in May.

Soon after it was announced that the princess was suffering from a severe ear, nose and throat infection which would require surgery in South Africa.

What followed was a brutal health battle for Charlene, as she faced multiple complications from the surgeries that have prevented her from flying home to Monaco.

Though Albert, Jacques and Gabriella visited her in August, the royal has been alone for much of her stay in South Africa.

“I cannot wait to get home to my children, who I miss terribly,” the mother-of-two said in an interview earlier this month.

“If there is any mother out there who has been separated from her children for months would feel the same way I feel.”

There were hopes that Charlene would be cleared to fly home to Monaco by the end of October, following a “final” surgery earlier in the month.

The Monegasque royal palace confirmed that the princess had the operation weeks ago, but there have been no updates about Charlene’s plans to return to her husband and children.

“I know she’s said possibly late October, but that was before this most recent round of appointments,” Prince Albert told People of his wife’s condition in September.

More recently, he told RMC radio: “She is better. It was also complicated for her because different problems affected her.”

However, the royals are yet to confirm any plans for Charlene’s return to Monaco, and fans have been left worried by the royal’s recent posts on Instagram.
