With just three months to go until the most important day of King Charles III’s life, all thoughts are focused on his coronation.
But aside from which superstar acts are set to play, the biggest headache of all is coming in the form of the King’s youngest son, the Duke of Sussex.
Indeed, Charles has been waiting for this day for three-quarters of a century and those around him confirm he is desperate for everything to go off without a hitch.
The King is said to be deploying his sister Anne to deal with his wayward son to help smooth things over following whispers Harry has coronation plans of his own.
Last week, reports emerged that US TV networks CBS and NBC are throwing cash at the prince to be a special guest in their coverage of the coronation, something Charles urgently wants stopped.
“If the reports are true that the Sussexes are banned from the balcony, on top of the fact that they are still stinging over the way the coronation was planned on Archie’s birthday, Harry’s famous ‘red mist’ will be in full flight,” quips a source, who admits there’s every chance he is considering a media role for the coronation because it could make him millions and it’s also a chance to overshadow his father’s entire event.
Given the circumstances, royal sleuths reveal Charles has decided it’s time to dispatch Anne to assist with Harry.
“She’s exactly the right person to have a good long chat with him, considering she’s the sort who won’t be drawn in by his theatrics,” tells an insider, who notes that while Harry, 38, and Anne, 72, don’t often see eye to eye, “she’s hoping he’ll play nice” out of respect for his friendship with her daughter and son-in-law Zara and Mike Tindall.
“Harry’s impossible to get on the phone, so Charles is asking her to go and see him urgently. He believes Anne is the only one who can talk some sense into him,” shares the source, who confirms Anne is more than happy to be taking charge.
While Harry left it open as to whether he and Meghan in fact plan to attend, Charles, 74, hopes they can be persuaded.
“He does want his son and American grandkids around on his big day. He needs to present a united front and show the world this family feud is well behind them.”
