A beaming Prince William has stepped out in Oxford following the exciting announcement that he and the Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their second child!
Prince William said the pair are ‘thrilled’ with the news, but confirmed that Catherine had experienced a rough week or so suffering from the debilitating condition hyperemesis gravidarum.
“She’s feeling okay. It’s been a tricky few days – week or so – but obviously we’re basically thrilled, it’s great news, and early days,” he said.
“We’re hoping things settle down and she feels a bit better.”
Catherine was meant to join her husband at the event to open the China Centre at Oxford University.
Clarence House was forced to make the pair’s pregnancy announcement early, before the 12 week mark, because the Duchess is once again suffering from extreme sickness, as she did in her first pregnancy and could not attend the Oxford event with her husband.
Catherine is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace and has not been admitted to hospital.
Arriving to congratulation messages and cheers for the royal couple, Prince William said Catherine was ‘extremely disappointed’ she could not be there.
A senior royal source told the UK’s Daily Mail that Prince William’s father Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall had only been told a few days ago and were delighted with the happy news.
“The couple only found out very recently. The Duchess has not even reached the crucial 12-week stage,” the source said.
“But when it became apparent that she was no well enough to join the Duke on a joint engagement in Oxford today and that the number of forthcoming engagements could be affected, the Duke and Duchess have taken the difficult decision to be fully open about the pregnancy.”
The palace confirmed the royal pair were expecting their second child in a statement on the Clarence House website and twitter account.
Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their second child,” the statement said.
“The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news.”
