Prince Harry has given tribute to his departed grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and her “unwavering grace” in his first public statement since her passing on 8 September.
Upon hearing that the Queen’s health rapidly declined within a few days, the Duke of Sussex – along with other members of the royal family – rushed to be by her side.
Despite already being in the country for Meghan Markle’s One Young World speech, he sadly arrived shortly after her death.
Prince Harry joined Prince William and Kate greet royal fans outside of Windsor Castle after the Queens passing.
(Image: Getty)“In celebrating the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen — and in mourning her loss — we are all reminded of the guiding compass she was to so many in her commitment to service and duty,” he wrote.

“She was globally admired and respected. Her unwavering grace and dignity remained true throughout her life and now her everlasting legacy.”
While his more recent relations with the British royal family was on rocky grounds after leaving the monarchy in 2020, he recollects on some of his favourite memories.
They had a close bond.
(Image: Getty)“Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings — from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my commander-in-chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren,” he continued.
“I cherish these times shared with you, and the many other special moments in between. You are already sorely missed, not just by us but by the world over.”
The Duke of Sussex then continued to pay respects to the new King, he said: “We now honor my father in his new role as King Charles III.”

(Image: Getty)He also gave ode to the Queen’s wise words following his ‘grandpa’s’ death in April 2021, just sixteen months before Her Majesty’s passing.
“Let us echo the words she spoke after the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, words which can bring comfort to all of us now: “life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings.”
He concluded: “We, too, smile knowing that you and grandpa are reunited now, and both together in peace.”
