Despite yesterday’s flurry of rumours that the Royal Australian Navy had snagged Harry as guest of honour at its centenary gala, the 28-year-old royal’s spokesperson has exclusively confirmed to The Weekly that Harry won’t be attending.

“I’m sorry to say that the reports about Prince Harry visiting Australia in October are not correct,” Harry’s Assistant Press Secretary said. “Sadly, he won’t be attending the gala navy celebrations.”

Government sources told the Daily Telegraph yesterday that the Navy had requested a royal visitor for the celebration and had been told Harry was the most likely to attend.

“We will achieve royal patronage but the palace will not announce the name until much closer to the event,” a defence insider said.

Harry last visited Australia in his gap year in 2003, when he spent several weeks working on a Queensland sheep station.
