Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning a trip to the UK to introduce their daughter, Lilibet, to the Queen.
According to reports, the pair have offered to fly to the UK to reunite with the royal family and hope to have Lilibet christened while there.
At three months old, Lilibet is the right age for a royal christening, but there is talk that the Duke and Duchess’ plans won’t go over well with the royal family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning a return trip to the UK.
(Getty)“Harry and Meghan have made this offer, but a lot of people are shocked by the sheer nerve of it,” a royal source told The Sun.
“They may genuinely want to see the Queen but it’s breathtaking given what they’ve put her through this year.”
The source went on to say that the Queen’s staff have not responded to Harry and Meghan’s alleged olive branch.
Instead, they explained that discussions are going on behind palace doors about whether the couple should be invited to the royal family’s Christmas festivities.
“In fact, there has also been discussion about Christmas — and whether an invitation should be sent to Harry and Meghan after they spurned one last year,” the source claimed.
The royal family was forced to skip their usual Christmas traditions in 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic which was still sweeping the UK.
As such, Harry and Meghan did not reunite with the royals for the holiday period, however it’s unclear whether or not they were formally invited to the UK for the occasion.
If the Duke and Duchess of Sussex return to the UK for Lilibet’s christening or for Christmas, it will be the first time Meghan has been back since she and Harry stepped down from their royal duties.
She was last in the UK for Commonwealth Day in March 2020, when she and Harry joined the royal family for their final engagement as senior royals.
Harry then returned in April this year for Prince Philip’s funeral, but Meghan was heavily pregnant at the time and unable to join him.
The Duke of Sussex was back again in July to unveil a statue in honour of his late mother, Princess Diana, but Meghan had only recently given birth and was absent again.
Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana was born on June 4, less than a month after big brother Archie’s second birthday on May 6, 2021.
She and Harry have chosen not to release any photos of their daughter yet, however, that could change if they fly to the UK for a royal christening.
Traditionally, photos are released from the ceremony itself as well as portraits taken with the royal family after the event.
If the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do return to the UK to reunite with the Queen and christen their daughter, we may soon get a glimpse of what Lilibet looks like.
