Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — now known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — have made their first official appearance as a married couple.
On Tuesday, the newlyweds stepped out for a garden party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate Charles, the Prince of Wales’, 70th birthday. The name of the event is a tad confusing, given that Charles’s birthday is actually in November, but it’s just one part of a year-long celebration honouring the future king and the organisations he works closely with.

Meghan, 36, looked every bit the royal for the sun-filled event in a pale pink-and-taupe silk-crepe design by Goat, which featured sheer long sleeves and an empire waist. She accessorised the polished ensemble with a pale pink clutch and shoes, as well as a matching hat.
And surprising royal enthusiasts, the former actress chose to comb her hair back into an impossibly glossy side chignon for the swanky event — a huge departure from the messy bun we’ve come to expect from the newly-minted royal.
Harry, meanwhile, was garden party ready in pinstripe pants, tails, and a requisite silk top hat, paired with a springy, oyster-coloured vest and primary blue tie.
Harry, 33, took to the podium to deliver a warm and witty speech in honour of his father, but was quickly interrupted by a nasty bee sting. Midway through the speech, he suddenly went off-script and said laughing: “To say… phffff….that bee really got me!”
According to the Daily Mail, the unexpected attack left his new-wife in a fit of giggles. She tried to regain composure by placing a hand over her beaming smile but ultimately let loose to share in the funny moment with her new in-laws.
Harry and Meghan tied the knot on a sunny afternoon (May 19) in England at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in front of 600 people and millions more watching from around the globe.
The intimate proceedings — dubbed ‘the people’s wedding’ — left royal enthusiasts in a puddle of emotions, so we can only imagine how moving the nuptials must have been for all those close to the couple.
Not least Prince Charles, who reportedly shared some heartfelt words with the newlyweds at their lunchtime gathering hosted by Queen Elizabeth at St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.

“Charles gave a brilliant speech,” one of the guests who attended the reception told People Magazine of the father of the groom, adding, “Harry was very emotional.”
Describing the royal’s speech, the guest said “it was very sweet actually, very heartfelt” and that he even commented on “how proud” he was of the man his son had “grown into.”
“He ended it calling him, ‘My darling old Harry, I’m so happy for you,’ which was very sweet,” the guest continued, adding that the 69-year-old also expressed “how he’s really happy for them both.”
The insider also revealed that he was “very pleased” and “happy” to walk his now-daughter-in-law down the aisle.
Of course, Kensington Palace announced just hours before the ceremony that Meghan had asked Charles to take on the important role of escorting her down the aisle.
“Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day,” the palace said in a statement. “The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”
It was no-doubt a bittersweet moment for the 36-year-old, whose father Thomas Markle Sr. had to pull out of the big day due to ailing health.
Congratulations again to the newlyweds!
