Harry & Meghan drop a big update on one of their key projects as they enter a new chapter outside of the royal family

It seems wild to think it was only a week ago that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan announced they would be stepping back as senior royal family members.

But a week is a long time in the land of Sussex Royal, because already, they’re pushing forward with some of the key projects they’ll take with them into their new individual chapter.

As the bombshell statement was dropped by the royals on Wednesday, January 8, many fans wondered what would become of some of the famous and inspiring initiatives that the Prince and his wife had worked on.

One of the biggest? The Invictus Games, which Harry himself set up for injured and retired servicemen to compete in a number of sports.

Many took to Twitter to voice their concern over the fate of the games – an incredible initiative, it not only provides an empowering platform for its competitors, but it’s also a brilliant spectacle to watch.

Now, Harry and Meghan’s personal Instagram, Sussex Royal, has cleared up any misconceptions by dropping a huge announcement that’s thrilled fans.

Featuring a video with Prince Harry and some of the games’ highlights over the years, a statement read: “Here we come Düsseldorf! The new home for the 2022 and sixth Invictus Games.”

“Having previously been held in London, Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, and upcoming The Hague this year in May – Düsseldorf will welcome over 500 competitors as they showcase their talents, determination and camaraderie to the world!”

In the video, Harry is seen speaking about the impact of the games, and stating the words: “The story continues”.

And indeed it does!

Harry set up the games after spending 10 years serving the armed forces – he wanted to celebrate the power of sport rehabilitation in both the physical and mental sense, and to showcase those who had served their country.

“Participating in the Games plays a significant part in the recovery journey of WIS Servicemen and women. It doesn’t just heal the individual, it heals the whole family,” the Instagram statement read.

The Duke finished the caption with a quote: “I have no doubt that the German public will get right behind these Games and that every single competitor can expect a warm welcome and an amazing atmosphere.”

The Invictus games were last held in Australia in October 2018, which marked Harry and Meghan’s first overseas royal tour.

While things might look a little different for the couple come 2022, we have no doubt the games will still bring a spectacle for the ages in Germany.
