Prince Harry has confessed that he can’t stand using social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, while attending a school program where he was encouraging children to do just that! He also revealed that he did once give used to be on Facebook and that his secret pseudonym used to be “Spike Wells”!

The Prince was in in East London visiting the Bethnal Green Academy where he met with students from surrounding areas who were taking part in a program where they were learning to Tweet and post to Facebook in order to promote the Invictus Games. The Games are an international event where wounded military veterans will compete in Paralympic-style events and is scheduled to take place in London in September.

Harry, 29, spoke passionately about the Games themselves and expressed his gratitude to the volunteer students who had been selected to work as “digital champions” of the event. Nonetheless, he did take the opportunity to have a dig at Twitter which is of course famed for often being home to the most vitriolic of internet trolls and as a Royal, Harry would make the perfect troll-bait.

“I’m not on social media but I used to be,” he said.

He said that he’d loved to be more involved in social media when it came to posting about and promoting causes that were close to his heart – such as the Invictus Games.

“The issue for myself and my family, put quite simply, is that it’s very hard for me to tweet about the Invictus Games and tweet about something that means a lot to me, wheras I at the same time really quite hate Twitter by the invasion of privacy. I think you all understand what I’m talking about.”

The British Monarchy has kept up with modern technology by getting involved with social media – with both Buckingham Palace and Clarence House possessing Twitter and Facebook accounts. Prince Harry though has often spoken of his anger when private Royal family details are leaked or rumours are spread online via the social mediums.

That doesn’t mean he’s never been on there though! In fact the Prince admitted that he once had a Facebook account himself– for which he used the pseudonym Spike Wells!
