With the royal couple’s wonderful baby news dominating headlines around the world, the first day of their Australian tour kicked off with an official welcome at Admiralty House, the official Sydney residence of the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove.
In front of spectacular views across Sydney Harbour Prince Harry and Meghan, in a tightly-fitting dress by Australian designer Karen G, met representatives from each of the eighteen countries who are participating in the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 which begin on Saturday.
The Duke and Duchess laughed and joked and held hands as they posed for an official group photograph with Their Excellencies and the eighteen Invictus flagbearers. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, was the first government official to meet the pair.
“It’s my fault if the weather is bad,” she told the smiling couple in the sunshine.
They then met Invictus Games officials including ambassador and former swimmer Ian Thorpe and his partner Ryan Channing, as well as Peter Leahy and Patrick Kidd.
Next the couple signed Admiralty House’s prestigious guest book before being led to the sitting room where the Governor-General presented a late wedding present to Their Royal Highnesses of matching Aussie Akubra hats.
“The Morrisons have asked us to pass on a gift for your trip to Dubbo,” the Governor-General said.
Their Excellencies also presented a fluffy toy kangaroo with a joey in its pouch and a pair of tiny ugg boots as souvenirs from Australia. “Here’s your first gift for the nursery,” the Governor General told the couple.
He and his wife passed on his congratulations on behalf of all Australians.

As the parents of three boys, Lynne and Peter Cosgrove, a retired senior Australian defence chief, know about raising army brats.
The couple were thrilled by the gifts.
“Thank you that’s so sweet,” the Duchess said.
The Cosgroves last hosted a royal bub at Admiralty House in April 2014, when Prince George visited with his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The first day of the tour began in Sydney at Admiralty House, the official Sydney residence of the Governor-General of Australia.
The couple then left for a visit to Taronga Zoo.
