Prince Harry crashes a pub quiz night

Prince Harry has given pub drinkers and trivia enthusiasts a royal surprise, crashing a New Zealand pub's quiz night on Sunday.

Prince Harry has proved to Stewart Island locals there is more to the man than just his ginger locks and cheeky smile, coming in second at a New Zealand pub’s quiz night on Sunday.

The Royal and his team, The Ginger Ninjas, were only outsmarted by one other group of minds, Prince Harry’s bodyguards.

The Prince and his security visited the South Sea Hotel on Stewart Island on the second evening of his week-long stay in the country.

Vicki Coats, who was the quiz mistress on the night and owner of Stewart Island Backpackers spoke to the New Zealand Herald, describing the Prince as a “lovely guy” and “down to earth,” which was clearly necessary to survive in the pub.

“The Stewart Island quiz is the Stewart Island quiz – it doesn’t matter who comes,” Ms Coats told the news outlet.

Coats posted a picture of the Prince in action, with the caption: “Why do I have my finger up his nose?”

Harry didn’t look bothered, clearly more enthralled in the quiz action.

And while the pub trip wasn’t on the official itinerary, security was still ever-present with police checking for bombs around the hotel in the afternoon, according to the New Zealand Herald, before Prince Harry’s 6:30pm arrival.

During his official and unofficial duties, the Royal has been as popular in New Zealand as Australia receiving almost as many marriage proposals and making another set of schoolchildren smile.

Seeming shocked when a group of school kids said they didn’t play rugby on Saturday, Prince Harry responded with cheek.

“I thought you would be forced to play rugby,” the Royal said.

“That’s why you have such a good rugby team, isn’t it?”

And the Prince didn’t miss out on another sports game, swapping AFL for Rugby as he watched Wellington’s Hurricanes and South Africa’s Sharks play on Saturday night.
