While the British Royals may never be far from our hearts and minds, it was the Danish Royals who managed to steal the spotlight this past week thanks to the lavish celebrations for Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark’s 50th birthday celebrations.
Prince Frederik turned 50 on the 26th May and on Friday, he and his adorable family unveiled a brand new collection of portraits at a special reception at Frederiksborg Castle in Hilleroed. This beautiful moment was just the begging – the Danish Royal Court shared the exciting news that there would be numerous celebrations over the coming weekend, including releasing two new photos of Prince Frederik.

The Royal Run
For most of us celebrating our birthday with a 10km run sounds like a nightmare, but not for the Prince Frederick and his wife Crown Princess Mary.
The pair ran through Aalborg, Aarhus, Esbjerg, Odense and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg with members of the public taking part in the run.

On the 26th – the day of the Prince’s birth – he and his entire family greeted the public from the balcony of Amalienborg Palace to greet the public.

The Royal Gala
In the evening, Prince Fredrick and Princess Mary tucked the kiddies into bed and headed out to a lavish gala dinner to celebrate the Prince’s landmark birthday.
The heir to the Danish throne was in full military regalia, while 46-year-old Princess Mary wore a beautiful floor-length pink sequinned dress and tiara.
The event was attended by royalty from many European countries including Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland.
The event looks every bit a fairy tale and included emotional speeches from Queen Margrethe and Princess Mary.
” I’m happy that you swept my legs away from me and that we dared to fall apart – not for a while but for life,” Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess Mary shares her admiration of the birthday boy.
If this isn’t a fairy tale then what is?
Queen Margrethe, Prince Frederick’s mother, told the attendees that all of Denmark would continue to Cheer her son on.
“You stand, as you say, in the middle of life. Much have you achieved and much have you experienced, and these days you’ve been able to feel how all of Denmark cheer up on you and look forward to your deeds. With eagerness and energy you go for everything you have to do, and it puts track where you come from,” she told the crowd.
