For the third time in his life, Prince Charles has taken to BBC 4’s Thought Of The Day programme to make a heartfelt (albeit, this time, seemingly worried) Christmas address to the show’s British listeners.
And on this occasion, the heir to the royal throne decided to open up about the singling out of minority religions in modern society and how he is concerned we are repeating the “horrors of the past”.
The prince, who is father to Prince William, 34, and 32-year-old Prince Harry, then went out to describe this current persecution against these religions as echoing “the dark days of the 1930s”.
“My parents’ generation fought and died in a battle against intolerance, monstrous extremism and inhuman attempts to exterminate the Jewish population of Europe, he continues.
“The suffering doesn’t end when they arrive seeking refuge in a foreign land.”
“We are now seeing the rise of many populist groups across the world that are increasingly aggressive towards those who adhere to a minority faith.”
While Prince Charles is directing, many Twitter users were quick to congratulate the royal monarch for his veiled warning against U.S. President-elect Donald Trump – namely shaming the “modern authoritarianism in which Trump and [Russian president Vladimir] Putin are significant players.”.
This comes as reports state that Donald Trump still wants to ban Muslims from the U.S.
“I will suspend immigration from areas of the world when there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies, until we understand how to end these threats,” Trump said in a speech during his campaign trail in July.
“You know my plans all along and I’ve been proven to be right.”
