It’s the sizzling Summer Bay romance which fans can’t get enough of and as Tori and Christian’s relationship continues to heat up on Home And Away, the actors behind the characters are lifting the lid on what it was really like to film that make-out scene.
During an appearance on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show on Thursday morning, Penny McNamee and Ditch Davey confessed that shooting their now infamous kissing scene was nowhere near as sexy in real life.
In fact, the consummate professionals insisted that it’s actually quite technical.
“It’s two minutes on screen but you film it for over an hour or so… there’s a lot of work that goes into a scene like that,” Penny, who plays love-struck doctor Tori Morgan, explained.
“There’s a lot of talk between us first before we go on. And Ditch was excellent at speaking to me to discuss what I was comfortable with, what both our boundaries were,” she added.
“I think it’s really important because we didn’t know each other that well, so you have to develop a trust to be able to tell a story like that… And I think we did. We worked together very well,” Ditch, who plays Summer Bay’s top neurosurgeon Dr Christian Green, explained.
While acting out such an intimate scene would be intimidating at the best of times, the two stars were put at ease with a closed set.
“We had a closed set. It was just the two of us and [director] Lynn [Hergarty] at first, just working out what the choreography was,” Penny, who shares two children with husband Matt Tooker, explained.
When the Morning Show host Kylie Gillies asked how many takes it took to capture the perfect shot, Ditch and Penny were in hysterics as they revealed they were put through their paces again and again.
“There was a few,” Ditch said.
“Lynn kept wanting more camera angles and we’re like: ‘More?” Penny laughed.
Fans have long lobbied for single mum Tori to find her happily ever after on the show and it looks like Dr Green could be that special someone.
“She just got seduced. This guy walked in and she just went a bit weak at the knees, old Tori Morgan. I feel like all the ladies on the show did, it wasn’t just me,” the actress reflected of her character’s exciting new crush.
“I think we’re proud of the story we’re telling. It looks great and I think we’ve told the story well,” Ditch added.
Tonight, Tori and Christian’s first official date will be shown and Penny hints that things may not go to plan for the couple.
“I think Christian stands Tori up [tonight]… There’s a bit of a drama and then he has to woo her back. It’s the beginning of the relationship… they’ve had a hot steamy moment and now they’re going to go out and have a proper date, which is nice,” the 37-year-old said.
As for whether Tori and Christian’s romance will be able to go the distance, Ditch remains hopeful.
“I hope so. We work together very well. However the relationship goes, we’ll tell that story very well,” the 48-year-old said.
