Neighbours fans had months to prepare for Jodi Gordon’s character Elly’s final scenes on the show, with the actress confirming back in January that she would be departing the iconic soap.
Yet no amount of time was really enough.
Even now, as her exit played out on screen, fans, and Jodi are still coming to terms with it.
While Elly left Erinsborough with Shaun Watkins (Brad Moller), the father of her child, who was initially presumed dead after being caught in an avalanche in Switzerland, it was her love story with Chloe (April Rose Pengilly) that remains most memorable.
The same sex relationship was adored by fans, with the duo given the couple nickname “Chelly”.
In the wake of her departure on the show, Jodi penned a heart-felt tribute to April, and even teased a possible return.
“You my Queen, are a ray of sunshine, you have taught me so much about life and how to love myself, also being proud of the work I’ve done/we’ve done together,” Jodi wrote alongside a series of sweet photographs.
“Thank you for the most special story line I’ve EVER had, that being #Chelly.”
She then added: “You know I won’t be happy until Elly comes back and whisks Chloe away.”
It’s no secret Jodi and April wanted “Chelly” to last.
Given how dedicated they and their fans are about the relationship, the promise of a happy ending from producers could prove to be the hook that gets Jodi back on set.
Jodi’s gushing goodbye tribute didn’t stop there.
“I love you so dearly and want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for making every day at @neighbours fun, exciting, engaging and a learning experience.”
“And yes, you know I’d choose you any day over Taylor Hanson,” she added of their recent Hanson concert outing.
Jodi chose to leave the show to relocate to Sydney for her daughter Aleeia, whom she shares with her ex-husband and NRL star Braith Anasta.
