Everyone was shocked to read the news that their favourite Australian drama series was returning months after its final episode aired in late July 2022 – and we mean everyone.

Fans flooded the Instagram DMs of their favourite Neighbours characters to find out more about the reboot, set to return on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video in early 2023.

However, it seems numerous cast members were kept in the dark, April Rose Pengilly who played Chloe Brennan among them.

“Before you all start asking me about the Neighbours news that just dropped,” she began.

“I/most of us don’t know anything about it and are finding out at the same time as you, so don’t have any info for you, sorry! Very exciting news for you all, though.”

Meanwhile, Takaya Honda who played David Tanaka asked fans to allow him and fellow cast mates “time of process” after being stunned by the revival announcement.

He revealed that Stefan Denis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney and Susan Kennedy were the only cast members aware of the reboot – given three of the four were in the announcement.

“Please give us time to process. We don’t know anything more,” Takaya said.

Aaron Brennan played by Matt Wilson was also shocked by the news as he re-shared the sneak peak to his Instagram stories with the caption: “Didn’t see this coming.”

Will Georgie return as Mackenzie?

Trans activist and co-writer of Mackenzie Hargreaves lines, Georgie Stone, revealed an interesting point: If such a large number of cast members were unaware of the show’s return, what are the chances they feature in the upcoming season?

“Only found out Neighbours was returning when you all did, so I have no idea if I’m coming back! But thanks for asking and wanting more of Mackenzie,” she said.

Hopefully all the fan favourites return for the next season! But only time will tell, stream it here.
