The iconic film came out in 1986 – yep, 31 years ago! – but fans are more excited than ever about a second installment.

When asked whether he could talk about rumours of a second film the actor, 54, replied, “It’s true.”

Sounds like Tom still feels the need, the need for speed.

“You know what? I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know, it’s happening, it is definitely happening,” he added.

“You’re the first people that I’ve really said it [to]. This is going to happen.”

But the question everyone wants to know is who will be returning?

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see Goose (played by Anthony Edwards) and Maverick (Tom) take to the skies again but will Maverick’s rival, Iceman (Val Kilmer) make an appearance? We hope so!

Plot details haven’t been unveiled, but if we were to guess Tom will still be a badass pilot and perhaps take on the role of a Top Gun instructor.

But will his lady love Charlie, plated by Kelly McGillis still take his breath away?

Tom, pictured during the Risky Business dance scene, has been in Australia to promote his latest film The Mummy.

During his chat on Sunrise Tom also spilled on his personal life admitting, “I’m definitely a romantic.”

The actor, who has remained predominately single since his most recent divorce, has had three failed marriages to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes but he hasn’t given up on love.

When asked whether he would serenade a women like his character Maverick, Tom replied, “I would do that. Yes, I would. I am a romantic. I am definitely as a man, very much.”

“I’m also a dreamer, ” he admitted.

Tom admits he’s very much a romantic at heart.

Meanwhile on Tuesday night, the father-of-three made an appearance on The Project to promote his latest flick The Mummy and revealed the secret behind that iconic dance scene in Risky Business.

“I tried to go across [the floor] at one point and it was too sticky. What I did was I dusted the floor and then put stick [tape] on the other side so I would get centre frame on that and wore the socks. And that’s how I finally did it — to figure out how to get that smooth, right on the beat kind of flow that got me there,” he said.

After that the star made up the rest of the routine, “I went around the room and was dancing, that’s something that I did as a kid at home.”

He can dance around our house in his underwear any day!
