It’s been 17 years since Elle Woods and her bubblegum-pink biker jacket came into/bettered/changed our lives. And now, just when we thought Hollywood #MeToo campaigner and the original bend-and-snap mastermind Reese Witherspoon couldn’t get any cooler, there she goes and kicks off a convo with movie execs to make Legally Blonde 3 happen.
According to E News, Reese, 42, who has been toying with the idea of a third movie for years, is not only in negotiations with MGM to produce the movie, but to reprise her role as the no-holds-barred (and forever-blow-dried) lawyer.
Considering Reese had so much fun frocking up as legally amazing Elle in 2001, we can see why she’s interested in re-becoming Elle.
“I loved making Legally Blonde because I love pink!” she said during a Facebook Live Q&A back in 2016.
“It was really fun! I got to wear all of the amazing costumes. I also got to work with a dog every day. I’m obsessed with dogs. I love dogs!”
Not only that, but even further back in 2015, New Orleans native Reese also told Rachel Zoe that the right time to produce a Legally Blonde threequel is now.
“A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it’s kind of great right now, because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women,” she said.
“I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office—like president!”
Here are 6 reasons why Legally Blonde 3 needs to hit the big screen ASAP based on how much we learnt from the first movie. Starting with…
1. It taught us about #selfcare – oh, and that “happy people just don’t kill their husbands”.
They just… Don’t.
2. That it’s OK to have a meltdown after someone unceremoniously dropkicks your heart
^^ Standard post-breakup behaviour.
3. The Mail Guy could be the RIGHT guy…
Disclaimer: just don’t bend-and-break his nose while trying to get his attention…
4. To not let the, err, little things get in the way of career supremacy
Preach.
5. That studying long and hard on anything you set your mind to pays off
^^ It literally pays to do your research.
