There’s nothing better than nestling in to the couch with a hot chocolate, some comfy pyjamas and a cheesy Christmas movie.
Of course, this is Australia, so most of our festivities take place under the cool breeze of a fan as we enjoy an ice block. But you get the idea. On a scorching summer day, it’s still fun to get in to the Christmas spirit with a so-bad-it’s-good holiday movie.
Inspired by the classic Hallmark movies of your childhood, Netflix began dropping original films for the festive season in recent years. Now, subscribers have come to expect the cringey – yet heartwarming – flicks and in 2019 they won’t be disappointed.

Holiday In The Wild (November 1)
Holiday In The Wild (November 1)
Do we want to see Kristin Davis and Rob Lowe fall in love in Africa? Yes, we do. In this atypical Christmas movie, Davis plays a a divorcée who embarks on a safari in Zambia where she rediscovers herself while working at a local elephant sanctuary.
The trailer boasts cheesy dialogue like “A lot of people come here to get lost, so they can be found again” and “You’re falling in love… with Africa.”
There’s a 100% chance we’ll watch this on repeat until Christmas… while also looking up luxe safari vacations.

Klaus (November 15)
Klaus (November 15)
Netflix’s first animated feature film, from the co-creator of Despicable Me, tells the story of a frozen island above the Arctic Circle called Smeerensburg.
Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) has been stationed in Smeerensburg after distinguishing himself as the postal academy’s worst student, but the feuding townspeople don’t exactly exchange letters.
He finds an ally in local teacher Alva (Rashida Jones), and discovers Klaus (J.K. Simmons), a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys. These friendships return laughter to the town and, of course, restore the Christmas spirit.
The Knight Before Christmas (November 21)
The Knight Before Christmas (November 21)
Vanessa Hudgens is back with another festive flick, following last year’s turn as both Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro, and Stacy DeNovo in The Princess Switch.
This time, she stars as a science teacher who has been disillusioned by love but must help a cursed medieval knight (played by Josh Whitehouse) return to his time.
And if you’ve seen the Christina Applegate and Jean Reno classic rom-com Just Visiting, you would be correct in thinking this seems like an even cheesier rendition of the ‘knight trapped in the future’ genre – featuring Christmas cheer. We can’t wait.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby (December 5)
What began as the tale of a journalist sent on a work trip to infiltrate the Royal Family of Aldovia, ended in romance as the converse sneaker-wearing Amber (Rose McIver) married the somewhat dull Prince Richard (Ben Lamb).
As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s romance has blossomed the franchise – yes, this has indeed become a franchise – quickly began to imitate real life experiences.
From a royal wedding, to a royal baby, the third instalment will follow this royal rule-breaker as she deals with pregnancy in the public eye and the pressure of raising a future King or Queen.
But, before the royal baby is born, Queen Amber must help her family and kingdom by finding a missing peace treaty.
