There’s nothing like a brand new baby to quell even the highest level of tension in the air – and Meghan Markle’s brand new Royal Baby Archie is proving it on a whole new level.
Indeed in a moment that was unprecedented by many, the Duchess of Sussex’s estranged sister Samantha Markle has broken her silence on the new baby, and what she had to say has shocked us.
Samantha, who has made a point to deliver a number of scathing comments about her half-sister Meghan since she became a royal family member, is not usually known to get sentimental – but it seems baby Archie has changed everything.
In an interview with DailyMailTV, Samantha has opened up about Meghan and Harry’s newest arrival, saying: “Family is family. What I think is incredible is that it’s a great moment historically and although the adults have a lot of water under the bridge, I would really like to see everyone reach out.”
She added that she’s now “extended the olive branch” and now it is Meghan’s turn to do the same.
“We’re all welcoming the baby—Markles, Raglands, Sussexes, Windsors,” Samantha continued.
“In terms of the gene pool, we’ve all made a contribution to this wonderful little boy who will probably grow up to be an exceptional man and we’d like to treat this as if we’re all a big family.”
Samantha went on to say that she was incredibly “excited” for her sister.
“I am really excited for her. I love her, she’s my baby sister and it doesn’t matter what we’ve all said back and forth but she’s got to do the right thing. I just want to say Meg, you’ve got a world here and family here [in the U.S.] that’s excited for you.”
Well that was unexpected!
With all that being said, the blonde 54-year-old, who resides in the US, did end her statement with a little jib at Meghan’s relationship with her estranged dad, Thomas Markle, who has also been at the centre of controversy for his damning comments about the royal family, followed up by a very public apology to his daughter.
“I want Meg to be part of his life, I want Meg to be able to share this beautiful time with him in whatever way she can,” she said.
“I think it’s important for her too. I hope something sticks with her—that she decided to do the right thing for my dad. Life is short and we’re family. I hope she decides to do the right thing this time.”

Both Samantha and Thomas made many scathing comments about Meghan in the lead up to and following her royal wedding to Harry back in May 2018.
In January this year, Samantha issued a stark warning to her sister, telling her that she should be more grateful for her father.
“Thank him for your college education, your career, building every stage you set foot on, but really appreciate the people that care about you,” she said in an interview with The Daily Star.
She also said pregnant Meghan should “count her blessings and reflect moving forward in the new year” as well as “pay that gratitude forward to your children so that they also thank you”.
Meanwhile, Thomas Markle clearly regrets his pre-and-post wedding behaviour, sharing an apology on live television with his daughter, as well as issuing a cheerful statement following the birth of baby Archie.
“I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well,” Thomas told The Sun.
“I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honour.”
Whether the complicated relationship between the trio will mend itself now that there’s a happy new addition to the family remains to be seen.
But that being said, there’s one thing we’re sure of: if anyone can bring a sense of joyful connection to a family, it would be the adorable baby Archie.
