Duchess Meghan surprised royal fans everywhere when she made an appearance at the US Open on the weekend to cheer on her friend Serena Williams during her finals match against Canadian Bianca Andreescu.
Dressed in a casual but chic denim dress with a cream cardigan draped over her shoulders, the Duchess of Sussex oozed New York chic.
But despite being many miles from her husband Prince Harry and infant son Archie, she kept them close to her heart, quite literally.
Sitting with Serena Williams’ family, Duchess Meghan was on the edge of her seat watching the tennis match, but fans were drawn to her glittering gold necklace that has a sweet tribute to her family.
In a report by HELLO!, Meghan’s necklace features two tags, one with the initial ‘H’ for Harry, and another featuring the letter ‘M’ for Meghan, though the Daily Mail says that rather than an ‘M’ tag, it’s an ‘A’ for Archie.
Regardless, it’s a pretty sweet way of Meghan to keep her loved ones at the front of her mind!
Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Duchess Meghan sport a personalised piece of jewellery.
In fact, Duchess Meghan was seen wearing a necklace at this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament in July that featured a delicate ‘A’ charm. The necklace was reportedly a gift from jeweller Emma Swann from Verse Fine Jewellery worth $590.
Reports emerged on Friday that the royal mum-of-one had flown to New York City for the weekend in a last minute decision to support longtime friend Serena Williams at the US grand slam final.
The Times reported that the Duchess of Sussex flew via a commercial flight to her home country along with her security team.
And it seems that Meghan had a blast, as she was snapped smiling and chatting with Serena’s family including her husband, Alexis Ohanian, mum Oracene Price, sister Isha Price and her tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou. What’s more, US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour was just a seat behind her!
Duchess Meghan famously guest edited the September issue of British Vogue, so the two fashion powerhouses have something in common. But Anna Wintour has been singing Meghan’s praises for quite some time.
In January, a video by Vogue.com showed the US Vogue editor labelling the Duchess of Sussex as “amazing” and praised her hard work ethic.
“I think the two duchesses, the young duchesses that they have in Britain, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex, are going to keep the royal family afloat, quite frankly,” she stated in the video.

It was quite the whirlwind trip for Duchess Meghan, but the royal made sure to get the upper hand over her jet lag in a way she is very familiar with.
According to a report by PEOPLE, Meghan and a friend headed to Modo Yoga, which offers hot yoga classes in an eco-conscious studio, in the West Village neighbourhood of NYC and was greeted with “lots of sweet, knowing smiles,” from fellow yoga-goers.
“She has been going to Modo Yoga for many years and tries to do so whenever she is in New York,” the source revealed. “It was the perfect remedy for jet lag.”
