When Duchess Meghan Markle deleted her Instagram account before officially becoming a royal, it would be safe to say we were gutted.

No more photos of her adorable pups, or those delicious delicacies she so often enjoyed, not to mention those drool-worthy vacation snaps.

But now, in a surprise turn of events, the newly minted Duchess has made a flourishing return to the social media platform with her husband Prince Harry in tow, and they’re already nailing it.

Opening an account named @SussexRoyal, the Duke and Duchess shared their first official post with the world, which featured a series of heartwarming images at events and engagements the pair have attended during their first year of marriage.

The caption, from Meghan and Harry themselves, read: “Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.”

They ended by saying: “We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.”- Harry & Meghan.”

Their first post also contained a blue and white logo featuring an intertwined ‘H’ and ‘M’ – very chic!

The new Instagram profile was introduced by Harry and Meghan’s original Kensington Palace account, which they shared with William and Catherine.

The account posted their own welcome to the Sussexes: “Welcome to Instagram, @SussexRoyal, Follow @SussexRoyal for more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Follow @KensingtonRoyal! For more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

Creating a new account seems a natural move for the two couples, who recently announced they would split their households as they focus on their own work together as new families.

A source told People the split had come just in time for Harry and Meghan as they start their own family.

“The time has come… [Harry and William] are in their 30s and can’t be treated as young unmarried men any more. Now, they are spreading their wings. William more than Harry as he has his three children – but Harry is now starting his own – and it is time to move on.”

Meanwhile, Kensington Royal’s Instagram account now has a shiny new profile photo, and it features the Cambridge kids!

The updated profile is sure to spark extra joy every time we see a new post now!

It seems the wider royal family are well and truly on board with the new arrangement, with both Prince Andrew and Princess Eugenie, who also have their own social media accounts, providing the royals a warm welcome to the platform.
