Duchess Meghan has shared a heartfelt, emotional message on the anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London, three years on from the harrowing fire that left 72 people dead.
The Duchess has long been associated with those deeply affected by the harrowing event, which occurred on June 14, 2017.
As the anniversary on Sunday marked three years since that desperate day, it seems the royal mum wanted to ensure the survivors knew they remained in her thoughts as the careful words from her message were shared across social media.
According to the Evening Standard, Meghan sent an audio message to volunteers she worked with at the Hubb Community kitchen, a charity set up in the wake of the tragedy for women who had lost family members, loved ones and been affected by the disaster.
In 2018, Meghan and the women teamed up to create a cookbook, the proceeds of which raised money for the charity.
Two years after meeting them, the Duchess shared more words of support over the weekend: “I think back to when I met all of you and how you had all come together in the wake of what you experienced in your community,” she started.
“And now what you have done is such an inspiration. You continue to give back, you continue to put love in action. And that’s really what Hubb is all about… we know it means love but you are the example of love in action, and that is your purpose.”
The Duchess continued her message: “I’m so proud of you, so is Harry, and we are sending so much love to you from across the pond and thinking of you today, as I’m sure it’s a difficult day, but also one where you can look at how much you’ve accomplished in the past three years, and how you continue to give back and be an example for all of those around you.”
The beautiful message was shared far and wide across social media, with many fans also taking comfort in the Duchess’ words.
“Just beautiful of her to take the time to send them this message,” one fan wrote on Instagram.
Another mused: “Meghan has wonderful work ethics. She seems very dedicated and engaged with every charity, patronage, etc. she lends her name to.”
Meghan’s dedication and support for her patronages, particularly the Hubb Kitchen, has been abundantly clear over the years.
The cookbook she created in 2018, titled Together, has sold a whopping 130,000 copies and raised more than $1 million dollars for the charity.
Back in November 2018, the Duchess visited the kitchen while she was pregnant with baby Archie.
During the special day, Meghan was reunited with some of the women she created the book with, and pictures from the special day showed just how close a bond she shares with them.
And her ties haven’t wavered. Earlier this year during lockdown, the Duchess had a video call with some of the women from the kitchen again to check in on how they were doing amid the pandemic.
In the video call clip, Meghan was seen wearing a casual white shirt while beaming at the women.
“The spirit of the Hubb Community Kitchen has always been one of caring, giving back, and helping those in need, initially in Grenfell and now throughout the UK. A home cooked meal from one neighbour to another, when they need it most, is what community is all about,” she told them.
