Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex has reportedly celebrated her 38th birthday with a rather, er, unexpected trip to one of Europe’s most celebrated party spots.
While reports at the time of her birthday, which was on August 4, suggested the Duchess was going low-key for her big day, it has now emerged that the royal actually had much bigger plans.
According to various Spanish media publications, reports state Meghan, Harry and their three-month-old son Archie flew to none other than Ibiza two days after her birthday.
It is believed the trio flew via private jet and stayed in a private villa hidden from sight from any members of the public.
While the trip itself will come as a surprise to many, it also marked what was probably a milestone moment for baby Archie – his first overseas holiday.
Reports have also suggested the Sussexes travelled with their own security team, as well as five local escorts who are familiar with the area.
So while Ibiza is indeed well known to be a central party spot in Europe, it seems the royals’ visit couldn’t have been further from the alcohol-laden dance parties (on lavish boats, of course) that we often think of when the mind wanders to the sights of Ibiza.
The place is also likely to hold a special place in Meghan’s heart – an old Instagram post from the Duchess revealed she actually visited the spot with her pals in 2016, which would have been around the time Meghan first met Prince Harry.
One of her friends that came for the 2016 trip was fashion designer Misha Nonoo, who is widely believed to be one of the driving forces behind Harry and Meghan’s big introduction.
What’s more, Meghan continues to share a close bond with Misha – it was recently announced the Duchess would be teaming up with her and several other British fashion designers to create a capsule work wear collection in support of charity Smart Works.

While the new parents are clearly spending some much-needed time out of the public eye at present, it is expected Harry will be back in action as August wraps up.
Meghan’s maternity leave is expected to end sometime between September and October, before the trio head to Africa on their next scheduled royal tour.
Seeing how well travelled he already is, we’re sure Archie is going to love seeing some of the incredible spots in the unique continent.
