As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare to tie the knot in just a matter of weeks, yet another exciting detail has come to light: the couple have selected the photographer who will document their bigger than big day.
And the title of royal wedding photographer officially goes to… Alexi Lubomirski!
If that name sounds familiar, you probably recognise him as the portrait photographer behind the couple’s stunning engagement photos at Frogmore House.
“I could not be more thrilled or honored to photograph this historic occasion,” Lubomirski said in a statement released by Kensington Palace. “Having taken Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s engagement photos, it brings me such joy to be able to witness again, the next chapter in this wonderful love story.”
The choice doesn’t come as a huge surprise to royal watchers, however there was speculation the duo would follow in the footsteps of Prince William and Kate Middleton who elised Hugo Burnand for their 2011 nuptials. Prince Charles and wife Camilla also chose the renowned photographer to capture their special day back in 2005.
Lubomirski recently opened up about what it was like working with the soon-to-be-married couple on their engagement shoot.
Speaking with E! News while at the Daily Front Row Fashion Awards, he couldn’t help but sing the praises of the royal duo.
“It was one of the easiest, most joyful jobs because they were so deliciously in love,” he said, adding that he told the couple to “just be yourselves and I will take pictures of you.”
He also revealed that he’d never met the royal duo prior to shooting them and was actually discovered over Instagram by one of Meghan’s friends.
“It was nutty. It was a very surreal end to the year because it came out of nowhere,” he said. “I think one of Meghan’s friends saw me on Instagram that I was in England during the announcement of the engagement and I was told later that this person said to her, ‘You should meet Alexi. He’s great. You’d love him,’ and that was it.”
Royals — they’re just like like us! Well, sort of…
Lubomirski, a fashion and portrait photographer who trained with the likes of Mario Testino, has previously shot A-listers like Julia Roberts, Beyoncé, and Keira Knightley.
Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, will tie the knot at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.
Around 600 people have been invited to the service, with a select 200 close friends also scoring a place at an after party at Frogmore House.
Not long now! The countdown is well and truly on.
