Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s children might still be quite young but they’ve already shared many parenting rules with us.

Meghan made an appearance at a World Mental Health Day panel event in New York City on October 10 2023 alongside her husband Prince Harry. She admitted that she had worries about her children going on social media later in life.

“Being a mom is the most important thing in my entire life… outside of course being a wife to this one.” She joked to Harry.

“But I will say, I feel fortunate that our children are at an age, again, quite young, so this [social media] isn’t in our immediate future, but I also feel frightened by how it’s continuing to change,”

“And this will be in front of us. As they say, ‘Being a parent, the days are long but the years are short.’ So it worries me, but I’m also given a lot of hope and a lot of energy by the progress we’ve made in the last year.”

Although they haven’t set any rules surrounding social media for their children yet, we are sure when they get to that age they’ll navigate it well.

Let’s take a look at some of the parenting rules the duke and duchess have established so far:

Manners

Some royal traditions have not left the household, specifically impeccable manners.

Although Prince William and Princess Kate might have a different meaning of impeccable, Harry is not letting what he learnt as a royal go to waste.

During an interview with The Cut, Meghan revealed that her kids having good manners is a high priority for the couple. Archie is now at the age that he has started to learn good manners, “We always tell him: Manners make the man. Manners, manners, manners, manners, manners.”

Privacy

The biggest thing we’ve learnt about the royal family is usually privacy is not an option.

Harry and Meghan have embraced every bit of privacy for their children they can get since leaving the royal family.

The couple chose to forego a royal title for Archie and Lilibet so that they grow up as private citizens.

They’ve kept details to themselves, their christenings, who their godparents are, and which hospital they were born in which is usually public information when you’re a royal.

Alone time is crucial

Leaving the kids at home can be daunting but it also might be the well-deserved break parents need. Harry and Meghan are no exception and appreciate the importance of spending time together as a couple.

The couple made their first outing two months after Archie’s birth, attending the premiere of The Lion King. Beyoncé and Jay-Z reportedly gave the new parents advice, “The best advice I can give you, always find time for yourself,” the rapper told Prince Harry.

It’s okay to ask for help

Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland was seen at the birth of both Archie and Lilibet.

For a few weeks after Archie’s birth, Doria lived with the couple at Frogmore Cottage, no doubt helping Meghan settle into motherhood. Meghan still isn’t afraid to ask for extra help, hiring a nanny to help her at home.
