It’s a lifestyle that comes as old hat to the royals, but soon-to-be royal mum Meghan Markle has never been one to do things by the book.
We are of course, talking about the use of a nanny to raise royal children.
It’s a decades-old tradition used by countless generations of royals, most recently Kate and William, who hired Spaniard Maria Teresa Borrallo to help raise their three young tots as the future King and Queen Consort juggle parenthood with their royal duties.
But Meghan is throwing a bit of a spanner in the works now as it’s been revealed she has some very different ideas when it comes to nannying.
The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly on the hunt for an American nanny – proving her origins are still extremely important to the former Hollywood actress.
A source told The Mirror: “Meghan and Harry have clear ideas on how to bring up their children. Meghan was clear in telling recruiters she favours an American over a Brit and wants them to feel part of the family rather than a uniformed member of staff.”
What’s more, they revealed Meghan is also looking to break another tradition in the process by searching for a male nanny.
“They [Meghan and Harry] are keen to explore the possibility of a male nanny,” the source continued.
It is understood the potential candidates for the role will be interviewed by Meghan and Harry themselves.
If meeting Harry and Meghan and having a hand in helping to raise their first child wasn’t enough, it turns out royal nannying is particularly lucrative.
The Mirror’s source revealed that the nanny will earn up to AUD $127,000 depending on their experience… sign us up!

The hunt is now on for the new royal nanny. It’s understood the couple have enlisted a famous Kensington-based agency to search for the right candidate.
With the royal baby expected to be born within the coming days, the new recruit will start within the next three months, and will be based at Harry and Meghan’s new home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. They will also be given use of their own car.
So what does it take for one to be a royal nanny? Well, it seems there’s a few prerequisites.
The recruitment agency enlisted by the Sussexes reportedly specialises in providing “bilingual childminders as well as Norland [College] nannies,” according to The Mirror.
And to narrow down the options even further, it is understood only a handful of men have attended Norland, a popular childcare training and education institution, with only two graduating last year.
Looks like these guys are in with a very good shot!
