She’s a singer, an actor and now Maia Mitchell is playing a young curious woman with an interest in medicine in 1850s Australia of all places as Lady Belle Fox in Disney+ The Artful Dodger.
At just 12 years old, Maia was discovered by talent agencies before her big break as Brittany Flune on Australia’s children TV series, Mortified.

But it was a “dream” to return home to Australia for her most recent role in The Artful Dodger after moving to Los Angeles nearly 10 years ago.
“It’s unlike anything I had done before and I just thought it would be such an adventure, and it was,” she told news.com.au. “It was a dream job.”
“My character, Lady Belle, is a bit of a rebel and doesn’t really consider herself much of a lady at all. So, it was fun to play with the uncomfortable nature of the costumes and live in that and let that show. It was good, but it was very hot and so sweaty. We would have AC vents just pumping directly under our skirts at moments. It was chaos.”

Following on from Maia’s 2006 role in Mortified, she worked closely with Disney to star in children’s TV series Jessie. She then showed off her singing talents in the Disney films Teen Beach and Teen Beach 2 alongside heartthrob Ross Lynch.
Despite these big roles, Maia is most recognised for her incredible performance as Callie Adams, a troubled foster kid with a juvie rap sheet, in the American drama The Fosters. The young actress was merely 19 years old when she begun acting in the series in 2013, until its timely end in 2018.
Her successful career doesn’t stop there, Maia has also featured in Never Goin’ Back, The Last Summer, Hot Summer Nights, Sitting in Bars with Cake and No Way Out.

Similar to many celebrities, Maia has been mysteriously linked to other well-known faces including her Teen Beach co-star Ross Lynch. Although Ross admitted to Hollywood Life in 2015 that they had a very enjoyable, and incredibly scripted kiss in the movie, they were just close friends.
Maia however was in a long-term relationship with New Jersey YouTuber Rudy Mancuso. The pair dated for six years before calling it quits in April 2022, Us Weekly confirmed with a source saying the couple had broken up “a few months” prior to the news going public.
Prior to Rudy, Maia was in a relationship with Ramy Youssef, an actor and stand-up comedian from 2012 to 2014.
As of 2023, it appears Maia is single.
